Illinois QUGA is seeking a Full-Time Habitat Specialist to actively provide conservation assistance to a multi-county region located in Southern Illinois – South of I-70. The primary purpose of the position will be to provide conservation planning to landowners, outreach, and mid-contract management assistance in order to achieve and increase wildlife and upland game habitat. Individual must have an independent ability to promote the QUGA upland wildlife habitat conservation organization by establishing habitat, seed sales and chapter formation. Be willing to travel in multiple southern county area radius. Flexible hours a requirement. Job Description & Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide habitat assistance to landowners. By but not limited to seed bed preparation, planting and mid contract management such as field disking, burning, and chemical application. Preferred candidate is or willing to be certified chemical applicator and basic wildfire training.
  • Actively pursuing CRP conservation practice implementation with landowner outreach. Work with Government and Non-Governmental agencies using conservation plans.
  • Conservation assistance on existing CRP to landowner goals in order to improve habitat with mid-contract management practices.
  • Promote, recruit and develop QUGA memberships and new chapters to fulfill the mission of the organization.
  • Position will require outdoor activity in all weather conditions. Must be willing to work eveningsand weekends, with some travel involved.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture/Natural Resources or Conservation related field preferred but not required.
  • Good organizational skills, leadership, sales and oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in operation and maintenance of Farming/Conservation equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and interact with Agriculture/ Conservation Landowners and Governmental agencies. General knowledge of habitat conservation programs. Be able to prioritize a heavy workload.
  • Independent and resourceful self-starter able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.

Salary & Benefits

$28,000 - $32,000
