2019 Baseball Season preview

INA, Ill. (Feb. 11, 2019) - With a winter full of snow and near-record lows, it’s hard to imagine that baseball is right around the corner. Yet, next week the Rend Lake College Warriors will take to the diamond to kick off the 2019 season, traveling to Mississippi to open their campaign against Itawamba Community College.

“We are very excited to see what this group can do this year, and have worked extremely hard on and off the field. I am confident that that their hard work will pay off,” said RLC head coach Tyler “T.O.” O’Daniel. “We challenge these guys from day one to be tough, resilient, and disciplined. The coaching staff has seen a lot of growth and development in both our freshmen and sophomores throughout the year. I will say that this is going to be a very athletic and explosive line-up from top to bottom on both sides of the ball.”

The Warriors will play a series of out-of-state opponents before kicking off conference play at Frontier on March 7. The squad will then turn around two days later to host Frontier for the RLC home opener on Saturday, March 9.

O’Daniel is excited to get the squad into what promises to be a tough conference schedule.

“Last year, we underachieved. This year, our goal is to compete every game and outwork our competition. Unlike last year, we have experience at the plate and on the mound. We will be returning several key players who led us as freshman last year,” O’Daniel explained.

“Caleb Reinhardt (Paducah, Ky.), Trevor Nicholson (Flora, Ill.), Brant Glidewell (Goreville, Ill.) and Ryan Luckett (Louisville, Ky.) all threw for more than 200 innings and led us on the mound. Bo Minor (Parish, Ill.) and Blake Wolferding (Sikeston, Mo.) both hit in the middle of the order last year, while Riley Cain (Steele, Mo.) held down the lead-off spot. Wyatt Pratt (Sikeston, Mo.), who split time last year at third base, has gained about 18 lbs. since last year and is much more explosive and athletic. Not to mention, he had a great fall. Our sophomores bring experience, grit and leadership to a very athletic and talented freshmen group. To say we are excited about this year is an understatement.”
