INA, Ill. (May 10, 2019) - Both Rend Lake College golf teams hit the road this weekend to compete in some championship play. RLC’s men will be venturing to The Donald Ross Course in French Lick, Ind. to compete for the NJCAA Region 24 crown while the women head for Daytona Beach, Fla. to play at LPGA International for a shot at the 2019 NJCAA National title.
The women are coming off a top finish in the Region 24 tournament held late last month at Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale, beating John A. Logan 719 to 720. Paige Hamel (Edwardsville) put on a clinic as medalist at 167 over the two-day contest. Alex Sadler (England) shot 176; Josie Sykes (Carbondale) shot 184; Sabry Griffin (Woodlawn) shot 194, and Alyssa Dardeen (Evansville, Ind.) rounded out RLC scoring with 195.
RLC’s Lady Warriors will compete in the National Championship from May 13-16 in Florida.
On the men’s side, the team is coming off a first place finish at the 2019 RLC Spring Invitational. RLC finished their home tournament shooting a team 586 to edge out North Central Missouri College (631), Mineral Area College (656), Lewis and Clark Community College (664) and Vincennes University (669).
Nate Neal (McLeansboro) led RLC scoring with a two-round 142. Jack Pring (England, Blackwell Secondary) shot 144; Brock Willmes (Metropolis) shot 150; both Jake Bullivant (England, Cramlington Learning Village) and Nelson Parlato (Wollongong, Australia) shot 151, and Dawson Brown (Mt. Carmel) shot 160.
The Region 24 Men’s Tournament will play May 12-13. If the Warriors advance, they will play in the National Championship May 21-24 at The Golf Club at Swan Lake in Plymoth, Ind.
