Tyler O'Daniel - Head Coach
Head Baseball Coach, Rend Lake College
O’Daniel, known as TO around campus, isn’t a stranger to the RLC diamond. He got his start in Warrior red when he came to Ina on a baseball scholarship after graduating from Marshall County High School in Calverty City, Ky. In 2008.
As a player, O’Daniel was forced to redshirt his freshman year after hip reconstruction. But, he battled back to become an everyday starter at 3rd base during his sophomore season. He still holds the Rend Lake College single-season hit by pitch record with 25. O’Daniel’s 2011 season batting average of .386 landed him 11th all-time for Single Season batting avg., while his career average of .369 puts him in the top 10 RLC hitters.
Following RLC, O’Daniel played for the University of Indianapolis and had some major success at that level, leading the 2012 Greyhounds in hits, SAC hits, doubles, home runs, total bases, RBI's, SLG, and HBP. He was named First Team All-GLV, Second Team Daktronics All-Midwest Region, NCBWA Midwest Region First Team, ABCA All-Midwest Region Second Team and was names to the 2012 Midwest Regional All-Tournament Team.
In 2013, O'Daniel was named to the Tino Martinez NCAA Division 2 Player of the Year Watch List and named pre-season All-American. He led the Greyhounds to a 46-16 record, 2013 GLVC and Regional Championship. He led the University of Indianapolis in hits, doubles, home runs, HBP, total bases and SLG. O'Daniel finished his playing career being named First Team All-GLVC East Division, ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-Midwest Region, NCBWA First Team All-Midwest Region, Daktronics First Team All-Midwest Region, NCBWA Honorable Mention All-America, and Capital One Academic All-District 4 First Team.
He returned to RLC in 2014, serving as the Rec Directory and the Conditioning Coach for all Rend Lake College athletic programs. O'Daniel also been an assistant baseball coach for the Warriors since the 2014-2015 season. He helped the Warriors go from 20-21 season in 2015 to a 37-23 team in 2016.
The 2016 season saw a dramatic increase in several offensive categories. Batting average jumped from .255 in 2015 to .324 in 2016. In 2015, the Warrior offense had 49 extra-base hits and ended the 2016 season with 160. The team’s on-base percentage rose from .322 up to .402 and the team's slugging percentage rose from .306 in 2015 up to .456 in 2016.
O'Daniel earned his Associate’s Degree from Rend Lake College in 2011 and his Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science from the University of Indianapolis in 2013. Tyler currently resides in Mt. Vernon with his wife, Kayln and daughter Abigail, and two dogs, Buddy and Kiya.
Mike Runyon - Assistant Coach
Assistant Coach (2017 - Present)
Coach Runyon enters his first year as Assistant coach with the Warriors. Coach Runyon has coached at all different levels, from Junior College to Division 1. Runyon's passion and experience is in Hitting and Recruiting so that will be his primary focus for the Warriors.
Runyon has been providing individual baseball and softball instruction for the past 16 years. He has dedicated his time to developing area players and doing everything in his power to move them to the next level.
His work with both the colleges and National Scouting Report, the premier scouting service for college coaches and high school athletes, has given him plenty of recruiting experience from both sides of the equation. Runyon's desire is to encourage the students to be the best they can be and help them achieve their goals.
Runyon lives in Mt. Vernon with his wife Sabrina, step-daughter Shauna, and two dogs Gracie & Elli.

Brandon Hardin - Assistant Coach

Coach Brandon Hardin enters his first season on the Rend Lake Warrior coaching staff serving as the Warriors 1st base coach and recruiting coordinator. Hardin will also assist with the pitching staff, scouting reports and defensive alignments.
Hardin was a letter winner in baseball, basketball and football at Pinckneyville High School (Pinckneyville, Ill.). He received All-Conference and All-South accolades at PHS while being named All-State by the Illinois High School Athletic Association.
Hardin began his college playing career at Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Ill., and was named First Team All-Conference after leading the Blue Devils to the GRAC Championship. Hardin's 82 strikeouts in 86 innings led the KC pitching staff in his two seasons. In 2011, Hardin continued his playing career at NCAA powerhouse, Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi.
In his first season with the Statesmen, Hardin pitched in 14 games with 11 starts recording a 5-2 record. In 68.2 innings pitched, Hardin allowed 50 runs on 72 hits with 28 walks and 62 strikeouts. His 62 strikeouts were ranked 15th in the GSC. In 2012, Hardin took over the closer role for the Statesmen making a team-high 24 appearances while boasting a team-low 1.03 ERA. In 35 innings, Hardin had eight saves, struck out 36 batters and limited opponents to a team-low .160 batting average. He gave up only four earned runs and nine walks. Hardin led the Statesmen to a South Regional Championship and College World Series runner-up finish in 2012. During Delta State's 12 game postseason run, Hardin had four of their nine wins and three saves while giving up only three hits in 8 innings.
In June of 2012, Hardin was selected in 10th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft by the Chicago White Sox. He was taken with the 231st overall selection. Hardin is the only played ever drafted from Pinckneyville High School (Pinckneyville, Ill.).
Hardin played professional baseball for three seasons (2012-2014). Hardin climbed the minor league ladder going from the White Sox rookie-ball affiliated team located in Great Falls, Montana to Birmingham, Alabama, the White Sox double-A affiliated team. Hardin best season came in 2014 while pitching for Winston-Salem Dash in the Carolina League. In 19 appearances, Hardin racked up 5 saves and 19 strikeouts while sporting an amazing 1.86 ERA in 19.1 innings of work. Hardin's final season came in 2014. He compiled a three-year career ERA of 3.77 with 113 strikeouts and 18 saves in 145.2 innings.
Coach Hardin also will be giving baseball lessons at The Rec on Rend Lake's campus as well as assisting head coach Tyler O'Daniel in the weight room as the Director of Student-Athlete Performance and Development.
