2026–2027 | Rend Lake College

The Higher Education Act allows aid administrators to make dependency overrides on a case-by-case basis for students with unusual circumstances. The student must provide documentation of those circumstances.

A dependency override cannot be completed for any of the following (singly or in combination):

  • Parent(s) or Stepparent(s) refuse to contribute to the student's education.
  • Parent(s) or Stepparent(s) are unwilling to provide information on the application or for verification.
  • Parent(s) or Stepparent(s) do not claim the student as a dependent for income tax purposes.
  • Student demonstrates total self-sufficiency.
