Rend Lake College is seeking a detail‑oriented Accountant – Payroll and Financial to support accurate and timely payroll and benefits processing. This position plays a key role in preparing semimonthly payroll, managing payroll taxes and deductions, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and maintaining accurate financial records. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, a high level of confidentiality, and a collaborative, service‑oriented approach to supporting employees and campus operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Prepare, enter, and process the semimonthly payroll.
- Prepare and process all semimonthly, monthly, quarterly, annual, and other payroll related reports - i.e. QTD/YTD payroll worksheets, SURS reports, Fed/State tax reports, W2’s, etc.
- Prepare and ensure payroll tax deposits are made.
- Prepare and ensure payment of all payroll deductions on time - i.e. group health insurance premium billings, group life insurance premium billings, long-term disability billings, taxes, annuities, garnishments, & etc. Entry of all journal entries required for the proper posting of benefit and & deduction expenses into the general ledger.
- Insure the integrity and confidentiality of payroll information.
- Maintain payroll files and records.
- Keep abreast of payroll laws, rules, and regulations. Review policies and procedures relating to payroll. Suggest improvements to the administration and implement changes.
- Balance and monitor assigned accounts.
- Update all employee payroll and benefit information as directed by the Director-Human Resources.
- Ensure proper posting of all entries associated with the processing of payroll.
- Distribute all required information associated with the payroll function to fiscal managers as requested.
- Process employee certifications, terminations, and retirement events with SURS as required.
- Provide backup coverage to the Specialist – Accounts Payable and the Director – Human Resources when needed.
- Ensure payroll and benefits processing is performed adequately during absences - vacations, conferences, etc.
- Maintain a courteous and friendly attitude with employees, students, and outside agencies when performing job functions.
