INA, Ill. (August 8, 2024) — Rend Lake College offered kids an opportunity to unplug from devices and to learn through exciting, fun activities. RLC’s Community and Corporate Education offered these camps for kids between 1st and 8th grade. These camps include, Bertie Ham's Chefs of Tomorrow, Blastoff!, RLC Golf Camp, Garbage Pail Science and Outdoor Life

Bertie Ham's Chefs of Tomorrow:

Campers learned the basics of safely cooking and how to cook lunch for themselves at Bertie Ham's Chefs of Tomorrow camp. Each kid was able to take home samples of their cooking to share will their families.

Bertie Ham's Chefs of Tomorrow is sponsored in memory of Bertie Ham by her friends and family. Bertie was known for her love and passion for education, cooking and children.

Blastoff!:

At Blastoff!, the campers built, decorated and launched their own model rockets, reaching heights up to 1000 feet. These campers also viewed videos produced by NASA, discussed the possibility of life beyond Earth and participate in activities that bring the solar system to scale.

RLC Golf Camp:

Golf Camp for grades 4-6 with Warriors Head Coach Corey Phillips

The Head RLC Golf Coach, Corey Phillips, went through the fundamentals of the game of golf with the Golf Camp kids, including grip, stance, back-swing and through-swing. The campers participated in drills that had them practicing their skills, learning course etiquette and playing on a course.

Garbage Pail Science:

The Garbage Pail Science camp was nothing like a typical science class. At this camp, the children made multiple science experiments using junk such as rubber bands, pipe cleaners, plastic cups, popsicle sticks and straws.

Outdoor Life:

Campers at Outdoor Life joined Park Rangers from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to learn basic outdoor skills. The kids learned how to build a fire, tie basic knots and build their own shelter. At the end of the camp, campers celebrated their new skills with a meal cooked over a fire.
