Annual "Rec the Scale" challenge is back at RLC in Spring 2024

INA, Ill. (Dec. 18, 2023) — The holidays are upon us, and it is time to think about preparing to knock off those extra pounds. The Wayne Arnold Recreational Center will once again be hosting the annual REC the Scale Challenge at Rend Lake College.

The annual REC the Scale Challenge is back at RLC! Beginning January 2nd, the 2024 Challenge will last a total of 13 weeks. Each participant will have the opportunity a total of 7 times and all weigh-ins are mandatory on every other Friday.

The participant who loses the highest percentage of body weight will receive a cash prize gathered together by the $45 registration fee. The more people who enter, the greater the prize. Work out and weigh-in with your family, friends, and loved ones. 

Each participant with have the opportunity to utilize The Wayne Arnold Recreation Center on Ina campus and are encouraged to join the Community Ed Fitness classes. 

We want to motivate you, with money, to make some healthy changes in your life! While taking on this challenge for the New Year remember to stay hydrated and eat at least 5 to 6 healthy meals throughout the day. Starvation or fasting, crash diets, and dietary supplements pill supplements will not be permitted.  RLC staff have the right to disqualify any participants for not following the rules of the REC the Scale Challenge.

At the end of the competition, winner takes the determined amount of the pot. In the case of a tie, a one-week extension will be given to the tied contestant.

Notes: 

Weigh-ins are mandatory for the competition and will take place every other Friday at the REC. The initial weigh-in will be January 2nd through January 5th. Each participant will have the opportunity to weigh-in a total of seven times on the following dates: January 12, January 26, February 9, February 23, March 15, March 29, and April 5. If you have a scheduling conflict for a weigh-in, you must notify the REC staff as soon as possible to schedule a new time. The REC is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and your weight must be recorded during these hours.

Participants should abstain from using dietary or hormone supplements, legal or illegal drugs (with the exception of prescription medications), over-the-counter diuretics, laxatives for weight loss, cleanses or detox plans, very low-calorie diets (less than 800 calories per day), all forms of purging, weight loss surgery, and devices such as sweat suits and saunas.

FAQ's

  • All results will be secure and no results will be leaked until the end of the competition. Data will be gathered by The REC staff and will be kept completely CONFIDENTIAL!
  • Remember Winnings will be based on the greatest percentage of weight lost, not weight total alone. Winnings will also be dependent on participation, so challenge your friends, family and co-workers!
  • All Weigh-Ins are mandatory!! If you absolutely cannot make the weigh-in because a scheduling conflict, you must notify us immediately. If you fail to notify us and you miss a weigh-in, you will be disqualified and will not be eligible to win the “pot.”
  • We will form an email “group” so that members of the competition can communicate freely. Please check for REC the Scale and the Wayne Arnold Recreational Center on Social Media Words of encouragement are welcome!
  • You will be asked to sign a photo release, because it is likely your photo will appear on The Facebook pages, and the usual RLC News Releases.
  • We encourage you to share strategies and other useful information with one another. This is a competition, be we are all together in the fight for a better life.
  • First Weigh In will be at The REC anytime between Tuesday Jan. 3rd & Friday Jan. 13th. The REC hours are 7 am to 7 pm Mon thru Fri, therefore your weight must be recorded during that time.
