AREA INDUSTRIES GUARANTEE JOB INTERVIEWS FOR MFG 1200 QUALIFIERS FROM REND LAKE COLLEGE

INA, Ill. (May 14, 2013) - Four area industries are guaranteeing job interviews for students who qualify through Rend Lake College’s new course, Manufacturing Employment Skills.

“An opportunity like this doesn’t come along very often,” said Chris Nielsen, Dean of Applied Science and Technology at RLC. “If a student completes this course with a B or better, and they meet the employment requirements for the specific company, they will be given a job interview.”

Industries participating in the partnership are Continental Tire, Aisin, Crownline and Pepsi MidAmerica.

Manufacturing Employment Skills, or MFG 1200, is slated to start June 3 on the RLC main campus in Ina. This six-week class will be held from 1-5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, and attendance is mandatory. It is worth three college credit hours. The cost is $288 plus the price of the textbook, and students are required to pre-register and pre-pay.

Rend Lake College’s MFG 1200 is designed to familiarize students with the history of the manufacturing industry, along with the manufacturing industry in proximity to RLC. Learners will also be expected to demonstrate necessary workplace skills required to be a safe, productive employee in industry. Topics covered will include history and types of manufacturing, safety in the workplace, work ethics, work environment, shift work and schedules, and human resources. Successful students will exhibit they have incorporated instruction into their day-to-day activities. This complete course, along with individual evaluations, could be used as an employee screening tool.

To register for the course, or for additional information, contact the RLC Applied Science and Technology Division at 618-437-5321, Ext. 1261, or email Summer Braden at bradens@rlc.edu.
