INA, Ill. (Dec. 11, 2019)
Rend Lake College was awarded $135,000 by the Illinois Community College Board for the Fiscal Year 2020 Innovative Bridge and Transition Program Grant. The awards were announced Monday, Dec. 9 and the results were presented to the Rend Lake College Board of Trustees at Tuesday’s meeting.
Funds received from the FY20 Innovative Bridge and Transition Grant will go towards developing essential supports for specific at-risk populations. The target populations include students struggling with mental health issues, students with special learning needs or disabilities and underrepresented students.
In order to accomplish the goals and activities of the project, a comprehensive interdepartmental plan will be written to assign specific objectives. Activities will include employing a testing specialist to conduct workshops on testing techniques, provide Accuplacer test workshops, and assist with Adult Education TABE testing. Funds will be used to create forums and supportive spaces for students, staff, faculty and community members to discuss current events. The grant will also help establish procedures to raise student awareness about available support services and develop key partnerships and referral systems for at-risk students.
