INA, Ill. (December 17, 2024) — The annual REC the Scale Challenge is back at RLC! Beginning January 2, 2025 and ending April 5, 2025, lasting a total of 13 weeks.
The participant who loses the highest percentage of body weight will receive a cash prize gathered together by the $45 registration fee. The more people who enter, the greater the prize. Work out and weigh-in with your family, friends and loved ones.
Each participant with have the opportunity to utilize the Wayne Arnold Recreation Center on the Ina campus and are encouraged to join in on a variety of fitness classes through RLC's Community Education department.
Every other week, participants will meet for weigh ins at the Wayne Arnold Recreational Center. Participants can weigh-in at any point throughout the given day, but it is suggested that weigh ins take place at the same time of day.
We want to motivate you, with money, to make some healthy changes in your life! While taking on this challenge for the New Year remember to stay hydrated and eat at least 5 to 6 healthy meals throughout the day. Starvation or fasting, crash diets, and dietary supplements pill supplements will not be permitted. RLC staff have the right to disqualify any participants for not following the rules of the REC the Scale Challenge.
At the end of the competition, winner takes the determined amount of the pot. In the case of a tie, a one-week extension will be given to the tied contestant.
Rules and Regulations
- The 2025 Challenge will last a total of 12 weeks. (*Spring Break 3/10-15th)
- Each Participant will have the opportunity to weigh in a total of 12 times.
- All Weigh-ins are mandatory weekly. You choose the day of the week you would like to weigh in. Please stay consistent on the weekly weigh ins.
- Each participant will have the opportunity to utilize The Wayne Arnold Recreation Center on campus. (Check out new Community Ed Fitness Classes)
- Water Consumption – Participants are encouraged to drink plenty of water/fluids throughout the competition.
- Food Consumption – Not eating WILL NOT be allowed! The best way to lose weight is to eat 5 to 6 healthy meals throughout your day.
- The Final results of the competition are based on the percentage of body weight lost. In the event of a tie, final contestant will be given one more week to see who wants it the most.
- Rend Lake College staff members have the right to disqualify any participant for not following the rules of the REC the Scale Challenge
FAQs
- All results will be secure and no results will be leaked until the end of the competition. Data will be gathered by The REC staff and will be kept completely CONFIDENTIAL!
- Winnings will be based on the greatest percentage of weight lost, not weight total alone. Winnings will also be dependent on participation, so challenge your friends, family and co-workers!
- All Weigh-Ins are mandatory!! If you absolutely cannot make the weigh-in because a scheduling conflict, you must notify us immediately. If you fail to notify us and you miss a weigh-in, you will be disqualified and will not be eligible to win the “pot.”
- We will form an email “group” so that members of the competition can communicate freely. Please check for REC the Scale and the Wayne Arnold Recreational Center on Social Media Words of encouragement are welcome!
- You will be asked to sign a photo release, because it is likely your photo will appear on The Facebook pages, and the usual RLC News Releases.
- First Weigh In will be at The REC anytime between Monday Jan. 13th & Friday Jan. 17th. The REC hours are 7 am to 7 pm Mon through Thursday, Friday 7-4pm. Therefore your weight must be recorded during that time.

OTHER INFORMATION: Participants should abstain from using dietary or hormone supplements, legal or illegal drugs (with the exception of prescription medications), over-the-counter diuretics, laxatives for weight loss, cleanses or detox plans, very low-calorie diets (less than 800 calories per day), all forms of purging, weight loss surgery, and devices such as sweat suits and saunas.
