INA, Ill. (October 28, 2026) — The Rend Lake College Foundation recently welcomed Melanie Andrews to its Board of Directors, bringing a deep-rooted history with the college and an extensive background in education and community service.

An educator and local advocate with decades of experience, Andrews has deep ties to the region. Growing up in Ina —just a minute's drive from campus — she graduated from RLC in 1994 with an Associate's Degree. Her very first job was a student worker position in the Cooperative Education and Job Placement Department.

Her connection to RLC extends well beyond her student days. Over the years, she taught part-time English and Education courses and currently teaches Introduction to Education and Observation on campus.

"I have always enjoyed serving my community through a variety of boards and service opportunities," said Andrews. "As a 27-year educator who has witnessed personally the benefits RLC brings to students, it seemed natural for me to join the Foundation Board of Directors. I have always said that RLC was one of the best decisions I made in my college journey, and I am excited to advocate for students and the college."

Andrews' career spans across regional education and administration. Starting as an English teacher, speech and acting coach and student council co-advisor at Mt. Vernon Township High School, she later served as a Student Services Director and eventually returned to serve four years as superintendent. Her extensive educational leadership includes working as a building principal in Johnston City and serving as Assistant Regional Superintendent of Schools for the Regional Office of Education 13, returning to the ROE as Senior Director before stepping back into the role of Assistant Regional Superintendent. Before transitioning into education, she spent six years working in banking, ranging from a teller position to management.

Inspired by a lifelong dedication to community service and a personal appreciation for how transformative RLC can be, joining the Foundation Board felt like a natural next step. Having experienced firsthand the benefits RLC brings to students, she looks forward to advocating for the college and increasing the Foundation's presence within the local community and among alumni far and wide.

As an educator and advocate, Andrews emphasizes that supporting local higher education is vital for regional growth. Whether creating opportunities for high school graduates or welcoming non-traditional students back to the classroom, investing in higher education is an investment in the future of the entire community.

"I want to continue to increase the presence of the Foundation in the community and with the alumni that reach far beyond the local area," she shared. "I am excited to learn more about the Foundation and the many ways we are able to support students in their quest to successfully attend college."
