INA, Ill. (November 5, 2026) — For Rend Lake College alum Donson Morain Jr. (Conyers, Ga., Class of 2023), the journey from a student athlete on the Warriors baseball team to fully licensed Financial Representative at Fidelity Investments in Vero Beach, Fla. highlights the power of meaningful connections and asking the right questions about the future.
Morain initially chose RLC after receiving an offer to play baseball out of high school. He was still unsure of his exact career goals, though he knew he wanted to work in business.
"I chose business due to not being sure of what I wanted to do, but knowing that I wanted to do something in the business space — whether that was finance, business development or another avenue," Morain shared.
Reflecting on the mentors who shaped his trajectory, Morain credits Business Associate Professor Mark Jornd for encouraging him to look beyond athletics.
"Mark Jornd left a lasting impact on me," said Morain. "He made me think a lot deeper when it came to what I wanted to do in the future, knowing that I won't be able to play baseball forever and eventually I'd have to join the workforce. He made me ask myself the deeper and more difficult questions about my career goals and how I would get there."
Beyond classroom instruction, RLC prepared Morain for the professional landscape through hands-on practice. Mock interview sessions and networking events gave him the framework to build and cultivate relationships in a business environment — skills that directly support his daily work today.
After graduating from RLC in 2023, Morain transferred to Midway University in Kentucky, where he played two additional seasons of collegiate baseball while completing his Bachelor of Business Administration in December 2024. He immediately transitioned into graduate school to pursue his MBA.

During the summer of 2025, Morain gained experience in financial planning through an internship at the Fidelity Investments Investor Center in Lexington, Ky. That experience led to a full-time position as a Financial Representative at Fidelity Investments in Vero Beach in October 2025, prior to completing his MBA in December 2025.
Balancing a blossoming career, graduate coursework and a personal milestone — getting engaged to his fiancée, Jordyn Stiles — Morain tackled the challenge of securing his professional credentials. He successfully passed his SIE, Series 7, Series 66 and state insurance licensing exams to become a fully licensed financial advisor.
"The most invigorating challenge was working towards getting all of my licenses while working on my MBA, working and getting engaged," Morain noted. "It's been a busy time!"
Looking back on his journey, Morain emphasizes that relationship building is the most vital skill learned outside the textbook.
"Relationships matter more than anything else," Morain said. "If I didn't cultivate or build relationships, I wouldn't be where I am today. Just taking the time to get to know someone and growing that relationship can truly help you in your career and in your development as a person."
For current RLC students evaluating their next steps, Morain offers encouraging advice on self-reflection.
"Look deeper within yourself and start asking the hard questions so you can have a better understanding of what you want," Morain advised. "You may not know what you want specifically right now, but as you ask those questions, you'll start narrowing down your options. And if you feel like that isn't the right answer, don't be afraid to go back through the process. That's the beauty of it!"
