Rend Lake College Awarded Over $273,000 in FY2024 Rev Up EV Community College Grant

INA, Ill. (Jan. 5, 2024) - Rend Lake College is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $273,898 in grant funding from the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) as a part of the FY2024 Rev Up EV Community College Grant Allocations. This grant program provides funding to support community colleges in the development or expansion of electric vehicle (EV) training programs.

"We are honored to receive this grant from the ICCB and excited to invest in the growth of our EV training program," said Kim Wilkerson, RLC’s Vice President of Career Technical Education and Student Support. "This funding will help our instructors prepare local students for growing job markets in the EV industry."

The Rev Up EV Community College Grant is an essential initiative which is set to help colleges transition to a more sustainable, eco-friendly future through the establishment of an extensive EV course and training program that provides students with a pathway for employment in the EV industry. The nearly $274,000 awarded to RLC will support the development of the program through the purchasing of necessary equipment on campus.

As part of EV-focused curriculum, RLC students have the opportunity to train on this cutting-edge hybrid trainer.

Twenty-five community colleges in the state of Illinois received a part of the total $9,425,188.56 awarded under the program. RLC's slice of the pie represents a significant investment in the future. The grant is part of the ICCB's ongoing commitment to providing the support necessary for colleges to succeed in preparing future workers for modern, sustainable industries.

RLC is excited to continue its engagement with the EV industry through the establishment of comprehensive, EV-focused curriculum and training that develops students into confident, well-prepared professionals for the workforce.
