Two Allied Health articulation agreements with SIU receive approval

The board approved two program articulation agreements with Southern Illinois University Carbondale Tuesday evening. The programs are Certified Medical Assistant and Health Information Technology. These agreements allow Rend Lake College students to complete an associate degree at RLC and transfer seamlessly to SIUC in good standing. Students completing either of these programs through these articulation agreements can transfer to SIUC's Bachelor of Science Degree program in Health Care Management.

Controller Wendy Smith to retire

The board accepted with regret the retirement resignation of Wendy Smith, Controller, effective July 1, 2017. She has been with the college full-time since January 1999. "I am grateful for all the wonderful opportunities Rend Lake College has provided me to grow both professionally and personally over the past 17 years," Smith wrote in her retirement letter. "Rend Lake College is an amazing place to work and I appreciate the opportunity to be part of the RLC team."

Physical Plant's Wasson to retire

The board accepted with regret the retirement resignation of Rick Wasson, Maintenance Technician, effective March 31, 2017. He has been employed full-time at RLC since March 2007. "I have enjoyed my career tremendously," Wasson wrote in his retirement letter. "The decision to leave the college was not an easy one. My time at Rend Lake College has been professionally and personally rewarding."

Foundation CEO Bullard moving on

The board accepted with regret the resignation of Shawna Bullard, CEO of the Rend Lake College Foundation, effective June 2. She has been employed full-time with the RLC Foundation since February 2009. "The Rend Lake College Foundation has been a cornerstone in my life, and I will continue to invest and believe in the students that are our mission," Bullard wrote in her resignation letter. "I strongly value the RLC Foundation and wish it all the best in its future endeavors as it continues with its mission of supporting students, education, the community, and enhancing Rend Lake College."

In other business, the board ...

  • Approved several curriculum-related matters and approved their submission to the Illinois Community College Board for action. These included permission to develop a new hybrid Management in Health Care course and a new online Finite Mathematics course; approval of two new courses, Career Exploration in Health Care and Cosmetology / Barber Refresher; and changing both the Business and Mathematics degrees from Associate in Science degrees to Associate in Arts degrees.
  • Set the out-of-district tuition rate at $175 per credit hour.
  • Approved the 2016-2017 program handbooks for Radiologic Technology, Phlebotomy, Nursing, EMT-Paramedic and Pharmacy Technician.
  • Approved revisions to board policy regarding fringe benefits and variable tuition and fees for special college-sponsored activities (both second readings).
  • Approved revisions to alcohol and drug policy and procedure (second reading) and assessment and testing (first reading).
  • Approved revisions to board procedure concerning terms of appointment and termination of full-time employees, and criteria for awarding credit.
