Nick Wimber thanked the Rend Lake College Board of Trustees for what he said was an honor, serving the past year on the board. The outgoing Student Trustee said it was a great opportunity to do something he wanted to do coming out of high school. Board members thanked Wimber before welcoming newly elected Student Trustee Colt Henson to the board.

NEW BUSINESS

The Board:

  • Approved revisions to job descriptions as presented, effective April 12, 2022. These job description revisions are needed to better meet the needs of the institution.
    • Administrative Assistant - Facilities Management & Campus Operations (PartTime)
    • Director - Recreational Center with Softball Assistant Coaching
    • Specialist - Recruitment & Student Success w/ Baseball Coaching
    • Assistant Director - Rend Lake College Foundation
    • Assistant Director - Student Records


  • Approved revisions to Rend Lake College Policy & Procedure 2.1150 - Strategic Planning, as presented, first reading, effective May 10, 2022. These revisions are needed to more accurately reflect the college’s strategic planning process. 
    • CURRENT POLICY
      The college will engage in an annual strategic planning process. Each area of the college will develop their
      own strategic plan and every person in that area will have the opportunity to participate in the process. The
      minimum requirement is for the official strategic planning documents to be completed. This document has
      goals which relate to the College’s strategic focus points. Individual areas will develop objectives and
      related action items which are to completed in support of the overall College’s strategic focus. Strategic
      planning can be started any time, but must be started by midterm of the Spring term of any given year and
      completed by the fiscal year end of that year.

    • CURRENT PROCEDURE
      The President’s Cabinet will review these objectives and action items and will include the approved ones
      in the budget for the coming year. The Business Office may start the budgeting process as it deems
      necessary but will not complete the budgeting process until the Strategic Planning process is complete in
      order to ensure that all identified items within the Strategic Plan are reflected in the commitment of College
      resources.

    • PROPOSED POLICY 
      The College will engage in an annual strategic planning process. Each area of the College will review the
      strategic focus and priorities to develop objectives and related action items that become part of the College’s
      master plan. The master plan is available to all, electronically, and will be updated throughout the year.
      Strategic planning may be started any time, but must be started by midterm of the spring term of any given
      year and completed by the fiscal year end of that year.

    • PROPOSED PROCEDURE
      The President’s Executive Leadership Team will review and update the areas of focus and priorities every
      three yearsAnnually, the President’s Cabinet will review the campus-wide strategic master plan and either
      approve or not approve the requested objectives and action items. Approved monetary requests will be
      included in the budget for the upcoming year. The Business Office will not finalize the budget until the
      strategic planning process is complete in order to ensure that all identified items within the master strategic
      plan are reflected in the commitment of College resources.


  • Approved revisions to Rend Lake College Policy 2.1175 - Assessment, as presented, first reading, effective May 10, 2022. These revisions are needed to more accurately reflect the college’s assessment process as well as reflect the current needs of the institution.
    • These revisions replace Tk20 with Canvas; clarify that all instructors involved in the assessment process will be expected to enter assessment scores within Canvas or provide assessment scores and/or findings to the lead assessment faculty; and specify that all assessment reports will be submitted to the Institutional Assessment Committee, the Vice President of Instruction & Student Affairs, and the President.

PERSONNEL

The Board:

  • Approved revisions to the Rend Lake College Faculty Union Agreement in effect until August 14, 2022, effective immediately upon Board approval. The faculty contract reflects agreed upon language changes and revisions to the salary schedule for the 2021-2022 academic year. These raises are equitable for faculty and are competitive with RLC's peer group institutions, according to administrative rationale. 
  • Accepted, with regret, the resignation of Christina ManchenDirector of Adult Education & Family Literacy, effective March 31, 2022. In her resignation letter, Manchen thanked the college and said she greatly enjoyed working at RLC for the past 14 years and seeing the Adult Education Program grow and offer new opportunities for adult students. "... It has been a wonderful experience to work for Rend Lake College. I will miss all my fantastic co-workers and friends," Manchen stated.
  • Appointed Linda Stasko as Director of Adult Education & Family Literacy, effective May 23, 2022. Stasko, who currently works as a part-time Adult Education Instructor at RLC, meets the qualifications and educational requirements of the position. Stasko holds a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Leadership from Argosy University and a Master of Education in Education Leadership from National-Louis University. 
  • Accepted, with regret, the resignation of Leah WilliamsPublic Information Specialist, effective April 08, 2022.
  • Ratified the appointment of Jacey Donoho as Lead Teacher Toddler Room for the Rend Lake College Foundation Children’s Center, effective March 16, 2022. Donoho has worked as an assistant teacher in the toddler room for over two years. She possesses the necessary education and experience for the position and has consistently demonstrated the skills and abilities needed to be successful in the position. Donoho holds an associate degree in Early Childhood Education from RLC. 
  • Ratified the appointment of Harry Heitmeyer as Human Resources Generalist, effective April 11, 2022. Heitmeyer has the necessary education and experience to be successful in the position. Heitmeyer holds a bachelor's degree in History from DuPauw University and most recently served as a human resources manager at Pepsi MidAmerica and as a recruiter for Addison Group. 
  • Appointed Stephen Gosney as Maintenance Supervisor, and revised the job description, effective May 06, 2022. Gosney possesses the skills necessary to be successful in the position. He has several years of experience in a leadership role and has a mechanical background. Gosney holds an associate degree in Radiologic Technology from RLC and has worked as a production supervisor at Continental Tire since 2014.
  • Appointed Brody Wilson as Coordinator of Industry Training and Apprenticeships, effective May 1, 2022. Wilson has worked at RLC as a records specialist for more than two years. He holds an associate degree from Rend Lake and a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. He meets the qualifications to be successful in the position.    
  • Granted permission to expand the duties and revise the job description of Lynne French from Administrative Assistant of Facilities and Campus Operations to Assistant Director of Facilities and Campus Operations, effective April 16, 2022. To better fit the needs of the college, this position is being created to build upon current duties and to efficiently use college resources, according to administrative rationale.
