INA, Ill. (Jan. 24, 2019) - A pair of Rend Lake College’s Agricultural students made a big splash by taking home top honors at the SIU Internship Poster Contest which was held in conjunction with the Southern Illinois Fertilizer and Pesticide Conference in Mt. Vernon.

RLC’s Mackenzie Trader and Sarah Mead took time before the conference to discuss their summer internships by using the posters as a visual aid.

“I worked at McNeil Consulting Inc., where I spent my summer soil sampling, grinding and mixing samples, and some tissue sampling. I provided a brief description of the company, the process I went through to secure the internship, my duties and responsibilities, opportunities and experiences I had outside of my original internship duties, and a reflection on the impact this internship had on my career goals,” Trader explained.

“The judges were looking for creativity, cleanliness, and organization on our posters, but overall they were looking at how we presented and communicated our thoughts. This contest was a great networking experience as well as an opportunity to build my public speaking skills.”

Trader placed first in the category of Crop Protection/Production, and Mead earned third place for her presentation in Ag Seed and Chemical Sales/Finance.
