INA, IL (Nov. 8, 2021) - As a way to say thank you to all who have served, Rend Lake College has announced a new tuition scholarship directed at helping veterans pay for college.
The RLC Veteran Tuition Scholarship is offered to any service member who wants to change careers or start a new journey. The scholarship aims at helping students pay for college even when other financial assistance has been exhausted.
The award is available to all Illinois residents, even those who live outside the RLC district. Students would need to have a current FAFSA on file. They would also need to be seeking a degree or certificate while they are attending RLC.
Kacie Hunter, RLC’s Assistant Director of Financial Aid & Veteran Services, came up with the idea for the award. She said in her experience she has come across several veterans who want to pursue their higher education goals but do not have the financial benefits available.
“We are wanting to say yes to veterans and all service members who have served our country,†Hunter said. “We are thankful for what they have given us. This is a great way to show that we support them by helping them pursue a new career path but weren’t able to before.â€
RLC will begin rolling out the scholarships immediately. After they are accepted, students will need to maintain a 2.0 GPA to keep their award.
Anyone interested in applying for the RLC Veteran Tuition Scholarship or for more information can contact Lauren Turner at turnerla@rlc.edu or call 618-437-5321, extension 1256.
