INA, IL (Dec. 10, 2021) - Rend Lake College has been awarded a grant for the purchase of three solar workstations that will be placed at the main campus in Ina.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Grant awarded $53,534 to the college in an effort to bring a clean renewable source of energy for charging devices.

The grant was given through the Illinois Green Economy Network, which was formed in 2008 as a consortium among all community colleges in the state and their partners to drive growth of the green economy. IGEN is considered a national model for sustainability-focused network in higher education. The organization envisions the Illinois community college system transforming education and the economy as a global leader for a sustainable future.

The solar workstations will provide a clean renewable source of energy for charging multiple devices and also offer comfortable and shaded seating for those on campus. The workstations can potentially become social gathering points for students while inspiring RLC’s commitment toward green alternatives.

RLC has already implemented recycling and waste reduction plans along with solar-powered charging device poles and water bottle refilling stations. The new workstations will meet a need for electrical power to areas where there is little or no infrastructure to support it. The footprint of the workstations is small and will not interfere with the natural beauty and peace of the campus.

Rend Lake College looks forward to sharing the opportunity of sustainable productivity with its students as well as with the community.
