Meeting Highlights
Under New Business, the Board:
- Approved job descriptions changes, effective August 11, 2026.
RATIONALE: These job description revisions are needed to better meet the needs of the institution.
- Approved 2026-2027 handbook as provided, effective August 11, 2026.
RATIONALE: The handbook has been updated to reflect revisions to board policy & procedure and/or updates to processes that have changed within the program.
- Granted permission to create Rend Lake College Policy & Procedure 2.1512 – Responsible AI Use, second reading, effective August 11, 2026.
RATIONALE: This policy is being created to address the growing prevalence of artificial intelligence tools, ensure their responsible use and safeguard institutional information.
- Approved revisions to Rend Lake College Policy & Procedure 4.1115 – Fees, effective the Spring Term 2027.
RATIONALE: Rend Lake College Policy & Procedure 4.1115 – Fees needs to be updated to better reflect the needs of the college.
- Approved revisions to current Board Policy & Procedure 2.1205 – Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace for Employees, first reading, effective September 8, 2026.
RATIONALE: These revisions are necessary to better meet the needs of the college.
- Approved revisions to Rend Lake College Board Policy 3.1110 – Computation of Hourly Rate of Pay for Part-Time Employees, first reading, effective September 14, 2026.
RATIONALE: This policy is being revised to better serve the needs of the institution.
- Abated a portion of the working cash fund in the amount of $3,814,837.46 and permanently transfer the abated portion to the Operations and Maintenance Restricted fund.
RATIONALE: Community college districts are allowed to abate or abolish their working cash funds and permanently transfer the abated or abolished balance to designated funds. These abated funds will be used to reimburse expenses incurred in the Operations and Maintenance Restricted fund related to capital improvements to the gymnasium.
- Adopted the resolution appointing Lori Ragland, Cathy DeJarnette and John Gulley as representatives of the Rend Lake College Board Secretary to accept candidate’s nominating petitions.
RATIONALE: The Consolidated Election Law has established that the election of candidates whose term of office will expire will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2027. Persons elected on April 6, 2027 will be seated at the April 29, 2027 meeting of the Rend Lake College Board of Trustees.
The Consolidated Election Law as amended established the election of two (2) trustees for six-year terms.
Under Personnel, the Board:
- Accepted with regret the resignation of Jessica Jackanicz, RLC Foundation Assistant Director of Development, effective August 7, 2026.
- Accept the resignation of Jay Carter, Industrial Electronics Instructor, effective August 3, 2026.
- Revised the job description and appointed Misty Bradley as Program Coordinator - Adult Education, effective September 1, 2026.
- Granted permission to create the position and job description, advertise for and ratify the appointment of Administrative Assistant – Physical Plant, effective August 11, 2026.
Under Financial Information, the Board:
- Approved ratification of the Payment of College Expenses including Travel Expense Reimbursements.
