INA, Ill. (Aug. 8, 2023)—RLC President Terry Wilkerson shared that the final report from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) mid cycle assurance review came back clean with no recommended monitoring. The review team highlighted key successes in the work put in at Rend Lake College, and offered a few recommendations to help us prepare for the comprehensive review in 2028.

“The assurance argument is one way for us as an institution to take a close look at what we do every day and how we go about serving our students,” said RLC President Terry Wilkerson. “HLC looks at things like quality of instruction, responsible use of resources, and how we fulfill our mission on a daily basis, and it’s good to be able to show that we’re in step with those criteria.”

Overall, the review team found HLC’s five Criteria of Accreditation to be met, which recognizes Rend Lake College as a quality institution of higher education. The criteria are as follows:

Mission of Institution.

Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct.

Teaching and Learning; Quality, Resources, and Support.

Teaching and Learning: Evaluation and Improvement.

Institutional Effectiveness, Resources, and Planning.

“We’re glad to receive a good bill of health from the Higher Learning Commission,” said Chad Copple, Associate Vice President of Institutional Outreach and one of the co-authors of the assurance argument, along with Rob Little, English professor. “We’re focused every day on serving our students and community, and it’s a boost to know that effort shows in our accreditation.”
