INA, Ill. (Nov. 29, 2016) - Prepare and learn how to react during an active shooter scenario in Rend Lake College’s new Active Shooter Training program. Designed for school and business professionals, the trainings will be offered starting in January to those interested in learning how to proactively handle an attack or intruder.

RLC has ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) certified instructors who will teach three sections of Active Shooter Training classes at 8-hour, 4-hour, or 2-hour time spans. The trainings can take place on campus, or be scheduled off-campus at schools or businesses to focus on specific building layouts.

“This training is beneficial for every workplace, school, church and venue that has a lot of people present, because unfortunately these type of events are happening more and more in our society,” said Ron Meek, one of RLC’s ALICE-certified instructors and Criminal Justice Professor.

Active Shooter Training at RLC is based on tactics that have become the accepted response, versus the traditional “lockdown-only” approach. In each training class, professionals will learn to identify the offender, profile that individual, and understand and implement a plan for dealing with the attack.

Specifically, the 2-hour program will focus on the history and lessons learned from school shootings, as well as look to the future of school shootings. Participants will then discuss the options for preparation and defense during an attack.

The 4-hour training will expand on those lessons and includes brief scenario-based training. The 8-hour class is the preferred training which expands on scenario-based training and includes a safety briefing.

As part of the ALICE certification training, RLC’s instructors learned how to address various situations and challenges unique to police forces, schools, healthcare facilities, higher education institutions, businesses, government, places of worship, and much more.
