INA, Ill. (Dec. 6, 2016) - Alec Long, Mt. Vernon, has been named the recipient of the Hot Rod Nights Automotive Scholarship. Long, who is currently employed at O’Reilly Auto Parts in Mt. Vernon, has a passion for vehicles. He is currently studying at Rend Lake College in the Automotive Tech Program and plans to transfer to the University of Northern Ohio to continue his education in Automotive Technology. He hopes to open his own performance shop after graduating.
In his personal life, Long races Micro Sprints with the POWRi Series. He homes to make the jump to 410 Sprint Cars soon. He said working on his own equipment is what inspired his career aspirations. Alec said that his grandparents are currently shouldering all of his tuition, so the generous scholarship from Hot Rod Nights will go a long way to helping this industrious young man and his family.
“Being a full-time student and trying to work a 35-hour-a-week-job can be tough. I really appreciate the support of my family. They do so much for me… I believe going further with my education will help me to have the skills to be a big name in the performance field. I also want to thank Hot Rod Nights for their generosity. Their assistance is really going to help me work towards my goal,†Long said.
Hot Rod Nights raised the funds for the scholarship via their 50/50 drawings throughout the season.
