THOMPSONVILLE, Ill. (May 15, 2019)
Rend Lake College's Certified Nurse Assistant program in Thompsonville celebrated a large class this year with the first-ever Pinning Ceremony last week at the high school.
The student are part of the brand-new dual credit CNA program at Thompsonville High School. This is the first year of the partnership, and it has been met with rave reviews. The participating students are taking their CNA course work at Thompsonville while also completing their high school education, giving them an all-important head-start on the job market.
“I think the biggest thing special about this class is that it is the first class ever that we have had at Thompsonville High School. This was the best class I could have hoped for as far as the students go, especially since it was my first year teaching it and was kind of learning myself as we went through it. I am so proud of each and every one of these students. The nursing home complimented me several times on the great group we I had,†said Dual Credit CNA Instructor for Thompsonville High School Lisa Kerley.
"These students just hit another milestone in their careers in healthcare," said RLC's Dean of the Allied Health Division, Bria Robinson. "Their first milestone was choosing this profession. It will be very challenging, but very rewarding. They might go right to work or they might continue in our Associate Degree Nursing program. They could stay in the area or move away. Whatever they choose, the healthcare workforce wants well-trained professionals
now more than ever. And we are looking at a group right here that is going to help meet that demand."
