A Rend Lake College English professor was recently recognized for his commitment to the community college students of RLC and across the state of Illinois.

John R. “Rob” Little, an English professor in RLC’s Arts and Sciences Division, received a joint letter of commendation from the Illinois Council of Community College Administrators and the Illinois Community College Faculty Association following a presentation he gave at a recent ICCCA/FA conference.

Little’s presentation, “Students at the Heart of It All,” struck a chord at the conference and he was recognized for his outstanding service to Illinois’ community colleges.

“Not only did this presentation demonstrate the deep commitment that Rob has for Illinois’ community college students, it did much to enhance the reputation and profile of Rend Lake College,” the letter states.

Little said the presentation he gave stems from a workshop provided at Rend Lake College about offering equal opportunity for every student at RLC.

“It was on the idea of equity and giving all of our students fair and equal treatment,” Little said.

About 40 members of RLC’s faculty and staff took part in the workshop. It was made possible thanks to a grant from the ICCFA, and Little said the program was a great learning opportunity for the employees of Rend Lake College. A stipulation in the grant required Little to speak at the ICCCA/FA conference where he presented on the nature of the workshop, faculty engagement and the success of the program in achieving its goals.

“Thank you for supporting Rob’s engagement with the ICCCA/FA conference and encouraging Rob to share expertise and wisdom with colleagues across the state,” the letter states. “Your support and Rob’s engagement have done much to move Illinois’ community colleges forward to higher levels of excellence.”
