INA, Ill. (July 22, 2014) - Imagine having an advantage in your higher education before receiving your first degree. That’s what some Rend Lake College students will have, thanks to a new 2+2 agreement with Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC).

The new agreement confirms that students who successfully complete the RLC Associate in Applied Science Degree in Industrial Electronics & Maintenance Technician program will transfer effortlessly into Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s (SIUC) Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology.

Chris Nielsen, RLC Dean of Applied Science and Technology, said the agreement is another way to guide students in the right direction, so transferring to SIUC is as seamless as possible. All transferring students will be in junior standing upon graduation from RLC.

“The agreement is structured so that Rend Lake College students who want to transfer to Southern Illinois University know exactly what they have to take to complete their bachelor’s degree,” said Nielsen. “In a way, it formalizes everything and they’ll know either they have the classes that are required, or they don’t, before they get to SIU.”

Max Kleiboeker (Carlyle) transferred his Rend Lake College degree in Industrial Electronics and Maintenance Technology to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Kleiboeker graduated from SIUC with honors and now works for BorgWarner, Inc., a global leader in powertrain solutions. RLC graduates will find it’s easier than ever before to follow in Kleiboeker’s footsteps. RLC and SIUC recently signed off on a 2+2 agreement where RLC grads start SIUC’s Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology as juniors. Students can enroll now for the fall semester, which starts August 18. The Associate in Applied Science Degree trains students in electronics and maintenance fundamentals in accordance with the latest theory and hands-on lab experience. Students who complete the program are qualified for entry-level positions within a variety of industries. The RLC degree requires a total of 72 credit hours.

The SIUE School of Engineering offers eight undergraduate degrees including the Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology, five master’s degrees, and a doctoral program. Companies in the area also provide students with challenging internships and co-op opportunities.
