INA, Ill. (March 7, 2023) — Rend Lake College is proud to announce that Sophomore, Madyson Barton of Norris City, has been awarded the Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Fund scholarship by TrueScripts, a prescription benefit management company out of Washington, Indiana. Madyson is a dedicated student who plays softball for the college, and her hard work and determination have earned her this well-deserved honor.
TrueScripts is a company that believes in giving back to the community, and every year during the holidays, the company's team members are given a small amount of cash known as a RAK fund. The team members then use this money in a way they feel best serves others. These acts of kindness include leaving generous tips for staff at local restaurants, delivering gifts and cards to healthcare staff, sponsoring pet adoptions at animal shelters, and more.
Last year, TrueScripts expanded its program to include RAK 2.0, a special fund set aside for more significant give-back opportunities. TrueScripts team members submit RAK 2.0 donation requests to a committee who reviews and finalizes each request.
"As I got to know Madyson Barton, our RLC Foundation spotlight student for the annual dinner, I couldn't help but notice the striking similarities between her and our Alumnus of the Year, Dean Merder," said RLC Assistant Director of Development Amy Newell. "They both exude humility, have a strong drive to help others, and initially had no plans to attend college. It was only through their involvement in sports at RLC that they found the path to higher education. When Dean and Madyson spoke at the event, I could see the connection between them. Dean recognized himself in Madyson, recalling his own journey at RLC, and Madyson saw the possibilities for her own future, inspired by Dean's accomplishments both on and off the field. It was truly a special moment, and we at Rend Lake College are proud to have such outstanding individuals among our alumni and students."
Dean Merder, the President and CEO of TrueScripts and Rend Lake alumnus of the year, had this to say about Madyson and the RAK Fund scholarship, "Our desire to show support through a Random Act of Kindness comes from a profound appreciation of the bright spirit and bold perseverance she’s shown in the face of adversity.
