MT. VERNON, Ill. (Aug. 25, 2016) - Complete Rend Lake College’s newest certificate program in just one semester this spring to get on the road to a new career. Studio RLC’s new Esthetics certificate can give licensed cosmetologists additional skills to take into the workforce, or provide students with an alternate route into the cosmetology field.

The program, recently approved by the Illinois Community College Board, trains students in everything skin-related, from health and nutrients to facial treatments to non-therapeutic massage, and much more. Estheticians generally work in a full-service hair salon, day spa, or in their own businesses.

Upcoming classes are scheduled for Spring 2017 to be completed in one semester. Class will meet from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday during the first eight weeks of the semester, and from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday during the second eight weeks. All courses will be held at Studio RLC, located at the RLC MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon.

According to the U. S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, estheticians and skincare specialists received a median pay of $30,090 in 2015. With a faster-than-average job outlook, the field is expected to grow by 12 percent by 2024.

The 24-week program will provide students with an occupational certificate in esthetics. Graduates can also sit for the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation’s licensing examination.
