INA, Ill. (July 26, 2013) - A recurring issue among college students is that they do not have reliable or affordable transportation to and from campus, but a new partnership between Rend Lake College and South Central Transit (SCT) is hoping to eliminate the concern for RLC students starting this fall.

Students will have the opportunity to utilize financial aid to charge money cards for transportation with SCT. The option will also be available to any student who has excess funding after college expenses are paid. Rachel Sveda, Financial Aid and Admissions Coordinator for RLC, and Sherri Bassen, Marketing Director and Public Relations at SCT, have been working this summer to bring the two organizations together to benefit students.

“We are so excited to be providing this option,” said Sveda. “Our job as a financial aid office is to help students find ways to cover their educational expenses so that they can complete their degrees and certificates. This partnership is one more way that we can help ensure that students have the resources they need to attend Rend Lake College.”

SCT currently has routes in both Franklin and Jefferson counties.

The Olive Route runs both north and south from West Frankfort to Mt. Vernon with stops at Continental Tire, Borowiak’s IGA, and Times Square Mall in Mt. Vernon; RLC’s main campus in Ina; the Shell Gas Station in Whittington; Walmart in Benton, and K-Mart in West Frankfort.

The Teal Route also runs north and south from West Frankfort to Mt. Vernon at the same stops, with the exception of Continental Tire. Instead, the Teal Route stops at Walgreens Distribution Center and Walgreens Robotics, both in Mt. Vernon.

Detailed brochures listing available services and route schedules are available in the Rend Lake College Financial Aid Office or online at www.southcentraltransit.org.
