Warrior Fest events draw crowds, Car Show winners announced

INA, Ill. (Oct. 11, 2017) - Nearly 90 cars, trucks and motorcycles braved the weather Saturday to attend the Rend Lake College Fifth Annual Warrior Fest Car Show with hopes of taking home the big trophy. There were 13 special awards for Car Show entrants, plus an award for club participation. The Car Show also handed out awards for the top 45 vehicles, door prizes, and a 50/50 raffle winner. All events raised funds for scholarships for Automotive Technology students. Warrior Fest also featured a dozen craft and art vendors, children and family-friendly events such as Big Truck Day, and much more.

Best Street Rod: Vince & Cheryl Brown of Mt. Vernon, 1932 Ford Roadster

Best Paint: Jerry Lampp of Tinley Park, 1963 Chevy Nova

Best Modified: Joe Johnson of Walnut Hill, 1999 Chevy S10

Best Motor: Bruce Briley of Collinsville, 1968 Chevy Chevelle

Best Rat Rod: Eddie Burgess of Mt. Vernon, 1946 Ford Pickup F1

Best Orphan: Marylee Holloway of Mt. Vernon, 1959 Nash Metropolitan

Best Truck: Hope Sugg of Greenville, 1968 Chevy C10

Best Sports Car: Corey Kimmel of Benton, 1964 Chevy Corvette

Best Motorcycle: Starr Williams of Mt. Vernon, 2007 Kaw ZX-14 Ninja

Top Club Participation: Kingsman Car Club of Mt Vernon

Several RLC clubs and organizations were also involved at Warrior Fest, including the Culinary Arts Club, the Radiologic Technology Club, the RLC Golf Outlet, the Bookstore, the Automotive Technology Club, the Amateur Radio Club, the Nursing Club, the Health Information Technology Club, the Learning Resource Center, the RLC Foundation, and Studio RLC. Each club and organization offered their own activities and goodies, including snacks, a silent auction, fall and Hhalloween decor, and more. Click on the photos below for larger views.

Three-year-old Jett Sandlin of Ina is all smiles to be sitting inside one of ARCH Air Medical's helicopters Saturday during Warrior Fest. Sandlin was one of dozens of children to take advantage of Big Truck Day, which let children touch, climb into, and talk to professionals, such as ARCH Air Medical, who utilize large equipment.

Other children and their families took part in Big Truck Day by exploring tractors and more large farm equipment. RLC also had a semi-truck, police car, fire truck, cement mixer, and many other vehicles on campus.

Several golfers met with brand representatives during Demo Day, located in RLC's putting range, during Warrior Fest. At the event, attendees were given free range balls to try out the newest gear.
