Wayne City’s Schumm seated as new Student Trustee, replaces Claire Pytlinski

INA, Ill. (April 12, 2016) - Freshman Eric Schumm of Wayne City was seated this evening on the Rend Lake College Board of Trustees as the Student Trustee for 2016-17. Schumm replaces sophomore Claire Pytlinski of Waltonville on the board.

Schumm, an Agriculture Business and Production major, is the son of John and Janet Schumm. He is active on campus in the Collegiate FFA and made the Vice Presidents’ List for academic honors in his first semester at RLC last fall. Outside of school, he said he enjoys raising cows on the family farm.

When he learned he’d been voted into the seat by his peers, Schumm said he was looking forward to representing the school and working with the board.

“I’m looking forward to meeting all the new people and having this new experience,” he said.

Schumm will transfer to Murray State University after his graduation in May of 2017. He said he plans to get a degree in agronomy to continue working in the agriculture industry.

During the meeting, RLC President Terry Wilkerson welcomed Schumm to the board, adding, “He’s got a lot of potential and I look forward to working with him.”

Pytlinski, the outgoing student trustee and also an Agriculture Business and Production student, is graduating next month with plans to transfer to Southern Illinois University Carbondale to continue her journey to become a college agriculture teacher.

“I really appreciate [the board], and I thank you all. Thank you for allowing me to do this,” said Pytlinski during the board meeting.

The daughter of Bruce and Annette Pytlinski has been named to the President’s List for a 4.0 grade point average every semester at RLC; is a member of the Collegiate FFA, and honor societies Phi Theta Kappa and Sigma Phi; and was crowned the 2015 Homecoming Queen. Outside of school, Pytlinski enjoys all things outdoors, especially helping on the family farm, bow hunting, and fishing.

“It’s nice to have a student actively participate on the board and she represented the student body well. She provided a lot of input to the board and she took the role seriously,” said Wilkerson, who added to Pytlinski, “I appreciate you and I’m very proud of you.”
