A sampling of works by Lori Sweitzer of Photography By Lori in Marion is on public display at the Learning Resource Center at Rend Lake College.

Sweitzer said the exhibit is made up of some of the more recent photography sessions at her studio, which has been in business for nearly five years. Although her business takes on many of the same tasks as other photography studios, she said Photography By Lori seems to handle quite a volume of children’s pictures, several of which can be seen at the LRC.

Sweitzer said she takes her time with her clients, particularly children, to keep the photography creative and different from the usual backgrounds and poses. As a low-volume studio, Sweitzer is able to devote the time she wants to making each picture as original as possible.

Sweitzer said she has had a strong art background since her early years, including private art lessons throughout school. She took art classes in college, but changed directions and earned a degree in microbiology. However, after the birth of her children, she returned to her artistic roots.

Photography By Lori started out as a simple side venture, Sweitzer said, “but it got really big really fast.” Her works can regularly be seen on display at the Illinois Centre Mall in Marion. The RLC display is her first artistic exhibit, she said.

Sweitzer and partner Dave Davies will be judges at the Rend Lake College Student Art Show, set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at the Learning Resource Center and Theatre.

The exhibit will be on display in the LRC through Friday, March 11, and is available for public viewing from 7:45 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
