The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is accepting applications to create an eligibility list for the position of Firefighter. Once created, the eligibility list will be in effect for two years. At the time of the last date for filing of application, individuals must not have attained 35 years of age, except as otherwise provided by Statute. At the time of appointment, individuals must have attained 21 years of age.
Applicants must successfully complete the following: physical ability test, written exam, oral interview and a background investigation. Applicants must also satisfy all other statutory requirements.
All full-time firefighters are required, as a condition of their employment with the City, to have their place of abode within Richland County. However, if an employee lives outside the corporate limits, certain requirements apply.
Salary & Benefits
All benefits are established by the collective bargaining agreement. Current annual starting base salary is $44,043 and increases to $49,993 after Basic Operations certification, with cost of living increases each year. On 24 off 48 schedule. Benefits include six 24-hour holidays, vacation, sick days, health and life insurance and fire pension.

Applications may be obtained at City Hall, 300 Whittle Ave., Olney, IL 62450 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday though Friday. Last day for submitting applications is March 31, 2020. Physical ability test and written exam are scheduled for April 4, 2020.
