The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is accepting applications to create an eligibility list for the position of Police Officer. Once created, the eligibility list will be in effect for two years. At the time of the last date for filing of application, individuals must not have attained 35 years of age, except as otherwise provided by Statute. At the time of appointment, individuals must have attained 21 years of age.
Applicants must successfully complete the following: physical ability test, written exam, oral interview and a background investigation. Applicants must also satisfy all other statutory requirements.
All full-time employees are required, as a condition of their employment with the City, to have their place of abode within Richland County within one year from the date of hiring and thereafter for the life of their employment with the City. However, if an employee lives outside the corporate limits, the following requirements apply: No city owned vehicle may be taken to the employee's residence outside the corporate limits of the City of Olney.
Salary & Benefits
All benefits are established by the collective bargaining agreement. Starting base rate is $25.92 per hours ($53,914) and increases to $26.55 per hour ($55,224) upon completion of law enforcement training. Benefits include personal days, vacation, sick days, health and life insurance and police pension, overtime for all hours worked over 40 per week, overtime for working on holidays, etc.
Any employee who has prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer with the required training or other approved equivalent shall be hired on the salary schedule and vacation for the number of completed years of service with the previous law enforcement agency or agencies (maximum 3 years).
