Community Services Block Grant Program

Community Services Block Grant Program

The Wabash Area Development Inc. and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity together announce one scholarship per county as part of the Community Services Block Grant Program. Each $1,150 scholarship will be available to an income-eligible student in Edwards, Gallatin, Hamilton, Saline, Wabash, Wayne, and White counties for the 2022-23 academic year. High school seniors and college students are encouraged to apply.

Completed applications are due to any Wabash Area Development Inc. office around end of April. (This scholarship has already been awarded for the 2022-2023 school year.) Those with questions should contact Debbie Meyer at 618-963-2387, Ext. 8056.

Crossroads Community Hospital Scholarship - Nursing Program

Crossroads Community Hospital will be awarding scholarships to college students accepted into the Nursing Program at Rend Lake College. The scholarship will be applied directly to the student's account and cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, and supplies related to the academic program. Crosswalk Community Action Agency

Crosswalk Community Action Agency Scholarships

Crosswalk Community Action Agency is awarding scholarships to Franklin, Williamson, Jefferson, and Jackson county residents. These funds are provided by the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Scholarships range from $1,500 to $4,500. Each student must meet the list of requirements to be eligible for a CCAA scholarship, including proof of income for all household members. Applicants can send copies of income directly to Crosswalk. CCAA will not consider any applications which are not complete and accurate. To view the list of income requirements, click here. The General Federation of Women’s Clubs, a philanthropic organization, founded in 1894, is dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.

This year, our organization has $15,000 in monetary scholarships for the academic fall semester of 2023.

The scholarships available are in the studies of:

Art, Environmental Engineering, Drama, Music, and Vocational Studies.

Applicants (male or female) must be a graduating high school senior, current college student and/or an adult returning to school.

Dr. Jean M. Moderts, MD was an honored, highly respected physician in Mt. Vernon, IL after his service to our country where he gained several decorations; Dr. Modert served our community from August 1946 until his death on August 31, 1985. Dr. Jean M. Modert's family set up two scholarship opportunities in honor of his legacy.

The SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation is pleased to offer the Peg Edwards Nursing Scholarship for the 2022-23 academic year. This scholarship, valued at up to $1,000, is awarded to a student pursuing a degree in Nursing.

Peg Edwards Nursing Scholarship was established to honor Peg’s dedication to the nursing profession. She was a Registered Nurse for over 39 years and received her bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 2009. This scholarship’s purpose is to support a student whose intention is to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Nursing and who demonstrates the initiative and leadership qualities to make a positive contribution to the healthcare industry by working in the field of nursing.

Independent Accountants Association of Illinois Scholarship

IAAI Scholarship

The Independent Accountants Association of Illinois (IAAI) Scholarship Foundation will present two (2) $1,000 awards, for the academic year 2022-2023. The scholarship is available to students residing in Illinois, with a 'B' average or better in accounting subjects, who are attending a college, university, or community college in Illinois. 

Students may apply by submitting an application, transcripts from each college attended, and a letter of recommendation from either the head of the accounting department or an accounting professor at the college they are presently attending. The deadline for submission is June 30, 2022.

The Illinois AMVETS Service Foundation is committed to supporting educational goals for our Illinois veterans. The Illinois AMVETS Service Foundation Scholarship has been established to invest in their education. Award amounts will vary and are based on eligible funding annually. Each award is for up to $2,000 and can be utilized for books, housing expenses, school fees, and tuition.

Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers Education Foundation Scholarship

IAAP Education Foundation Scholarship:

Members of the Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers believe in the importance of encouraging students to pursue an education in a field of study that will open up opportunities to work in the crushed stone, sand, gravel, and industrial mineral mining industry in Illinois. We accomplish this goal by providing scholarships to worthy students. This year the IAAP will award up to five scholarships (between two scholarship programs) of at least $2,000 each. These scholarships are a one-year grant. Students may re-apply subsequent years.

The application period opens on September 1st each year. Interested candidates should submit their applications to the IAAP Education Foundation (1115 South 2nd Street, Springfield, Illinois 62704) on or before January 4, 2023.

Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association Scholarship

Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association Scholarship

The Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association is awarding scholarships to students who have graduated from a Jefferson County High School for the 2023-2024 academic year. These graduates may be planning to attend an accredited college or university and must be working toward a major in teacher education. Students can be already enrolled and partially through a program or straight out of high school.

Applications are due April 1 each year. A completed application includes a cover page for the application documents and an information sheet explaining required student qualifications, application procedure, and documentation. Applicants must meet all requirements to be eligible for the scholarship. Submit applications to Larry Pearson, JCRTA Treasurer, 17530 E. Knox Rd., Mt. Vernon, IL 62864. Finalists will be selected by the JCRTA Scholarship Committee, after which arrangements will be made for an interview with each finalist. The interview is mandatory. Notification of results will be prior to Honors Day at each high school.

Justice in Family Law Scholarship

The Law Office of George J. Skuros, is offering a scholarship opportunity and accepting applications from interested students through June 20, 2023. The focus of our practice is family law, and our $1,000 Justice in Family Law Scholarship will support the education of a current or aspiring law student who wants to improve family law practice and policy. We are excited to share this opportunity with you in hopes that you will pass it along to your students.

  • At least 18 years old
  • U.S. citizens
  • Enrolled at an accredited U.S. college or university for the Fall 2023 semester

The N.G. Cowen Scholarship

The N.G. Cowen Scholarship:

The Cowen Scholarship was created to honor the memory of Master Mason Norredden Gene Cowen by his wife.

The goal of the Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to young adults from small towns in Southern Illinois, who are pursuing training in the vocational or technical fields. The Cowen family hopes this scholarship will not only bless the lives of young people but also benefit the towns to which they might return as skilled workers and craftsmen. With this particular vision in mind, Mrs. Cowen has instilled the following requirements. Applicants must:

  • Plan to attend or be currently enrolled in a trade school, vocational classes at a college, community college, GED, or apprenticeship program
  • Reside in a town in the Southern Area with a population under 10,000
  • Be 25 years old or younger
  • Be in need of financial assistance
  • Have had a high school GPA of 3.3 or lower.
  • Receive Referral Endorsement from an Illinois Mason in any Masonic affiliation.

The O'Brien-Vrba Scholarship

The O'Brien-Vrba Scholarship:

There is a generous scholarship opportunity that was established by two farm families in Northern Illinois to benefit rural students. The O’Brien-Vrba scholarship is for rural students living in Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, and Iowa. The donors were farm families from the DeKalb area who established this scholarship to help rural youth attain a college education.
