Attention Student: FOIA Requests should ONLY be used to request records not immediately available on the college website or via the president's office. Grades, Transcripts, Certificates are NOT available via FOIA Request. If you require information regarding classes or schedules, please visit Student Records.
Under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, you may request access to certain public records maintained by Rend Lake College. You may inspect records at the Ina Campus or request copies. If you choose to have copies made, you may be billed for the cost of the copies.
How to File a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
Request with the College
The following instructions are those desiring to access public documents and records under provisions of the Illinois FOIA. You can find more information about the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) by visiting the Illinois Attorney General's website: https://www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/.
Your request must be in writing. The request need not be on a special form and can be submitted to the address below or electronically by following the steps outlined in this page and submitted here:

- Please be as specific as possible when describing the exact records that you are seeking. Remember that the Freedom of Information Act is designed to allow you to inspect or receive copies of records; it is not designed to require a public body to answer questions. To the extent that you do wish to ask general or institutional questions of a college representative, you may call our Public Information Office at 618-437-5321 for assistance.
- In your written FOIA request, you need to specify if you wish copies of the requested records or if you wish to examine the records in person. You have the right to either option. As permitted by law, the college may charge for copies.
- In your written FOIA request, please specify if you are requesting records for any business, commercial or promotional purposes.
- In your written FOIA request please include your name, preferred telephone number(s), mailing address, and, if you wish, your email address.
