About Us

Writing Lab tutors are available to assist, you, the student, with your writing. No matter what stage of the Writing Process you are in—from brainstorming to revising a final draft—we can help. If you need assistance starting, organizing, revising or finishing your paper, we are here for one-on-one tutoring. Our goal is to supplement classroom instruction and strengthen your writing skills. We allow you to work at your own pace and on your own individual writing needs.

Citing Help

When using print or electronic sources within research papers, it is important to avoid plagiarism by giving the author/creator of those resources credit for their work. Citing sources on a works cited or reference page will allow you to do this. Your instructor may give you a sheet of instructions to follow when creating a works cited or reference page or you may find the following website useful for MLA, APA and other styles of writing.

How much does it cost?

There is no charge for students of Rend Lake College. You may visit the lab as many times as you want.

Do I need an appointment?

Students need to make an appointment in the Writing Lab to ensure a tutor is present. Walk-ins are welcome. Call, email or drop by to make an appointment. Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome.

What do I need to bring?

Your student ID, the writing/assignment prompt and any written work you want to improve.

Will I get Study Hall credit when I am working in the Writing Center?

Yes. Contact the Dr. Kirk Rhodes for more about this. 618-437-5321 ext. 1204 for more information about this.
