August 20, 2021

INA, IL (Aug. 20, 2021) - It is a story that has delighted young readers for generations, and soon the whimsical world of Narnia will come alive on stage at Rend Lake College.

Auditions for “The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe” will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, in the RLC Theater. The play will hit the stage in November.

Actors who are 16 years old and older are encouraged to arrive on time, where they will be brought into the theater to fill out a form and taught a simple, short dance routine. Afterward, participants will perform a cold read from the script together in small groups of four or five individuals.

Headshots and resumes are encouraged but not required. Those auditioning should wear flexible clothing and comfortable shoes. The RLC Theater department is looking to fill a variety of roles, including Aslan the Lion, the White Witch, Fenris Ulf the Wolf, Father Christmas, Mr. Tumnus and the four Pevensie children - Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, among many others.

Due to COVID restrictions, actors will be masked. If the mandate changes, then additional plans will be made accordingly. Performers will earn three college credits, and the tuition is free as RLC’s gift to the community and as a way to encourage student involvement in the arts.

Once the cast has been announced, rehearsals will run Monday through Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Based on the novel by CS Lewis, “The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe” follows the story of the first and most well-known book in “The Chronicles of Narnia” series. First published in 1950, it tells the tale of four siblings who discover the magical world of Narnia and the perpetual winter spell cast by the White Witch.

RLC Theatre Professor and show director Tracey Webb said the play has something for everyone.

“This is a wholesome, family-friendly play, focusing upon fantasy, adventure and the epic battle between good and evil,” Webb said.

Performance dates are scheduled in the RLC Theatre for Thursday, Nov. 4 through Saturday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m.
