Banterra Students of the Month are selected based on combination of GPA, and campus and community involvement.

Fassett is majoring in elementary education at RLC. Her academic journey is nothing short of impressive. According to Rene Crouse, ECE Instructor, Fassett has maintained a perfect 100% in ECE 1204, showcasing not just her intelligence but her unwavering dedication. Her proactive approach to assignments—often submitting them ahead of time—and her meticulous attention to detail in her work are commendable. But it’s not just her grades that make Fassett stand out; it’s her passion for the teaching field and her exceptional communication skills, frequently engaging with her instructors to enhance her understanding and performance.

Fassett's inquisitiveness and active participation are traits that Alex Martin, her Math instructor, admires deeply. Described as a joy to have in class, she exemplifies the kind of motivation and engagement that educators wish to see in all their students. Her ability to work ahead and her constant quest for knowledge underscore her exceptional character as a student.

RLC is delighted to see its students recognized for their upstanding character not only by our faculty and staff, but also by leaders in our community, such as Banterra Bank President & CEO Jeff May.

“Banterra was happy to partner with Rend Lake College for the naming rights of an upcoming renovated sports facility, the Banterra Sports Complex, because we are two organizations that are committed to supporting Southern Illinois and our youth,” said May.  “As part of that partnership, we are honored to sponsor a Student of the Month program which recognizes an outstanding RLC student each month for their achievements.”

Beyond academics, Fassett has shown remarkable leadership qualities and a keenness to get involved. Amy Newell from the RLC Foundation has known Fassett since she was in sixth grade and attests to her strong leadership skills. Her involvement as an RLC Ambassador and her distinction as the recipient of the Pat Kern Scholarship through the RLCF highlight her commitment to her education and community. With plans to continue her education at Southern Illinois University, Fassett's future in the teaching field looks incredibly bright.
