Art : RLC offers a wide range of options in art, including a two-year Associate in Arts transfer program, a two-year Associate in Fine Arts curriculum and Art Appreciation classes that will fulfill requirements for other degree programs. Courses offered include drawing, painting, printmaking, design, jewelry, sculpture and ceramics.
Music : RLC provides an excellent start for students who want to get involved in music. The Music Program has two available degrees: Associate of Fine Arts in Music Instrumental and Associate of Fine Arts in Music Vocal. An AFA in Music prepares students who plan to pursue their bachelor's degree in music. RLC is home to four semi-professional ensembles; the RLC Community Orchestra, Concert Band, Concert Choir and Jazz Band. In addition, the college offers other performing opportunities, including the annual Spring Musical, Student Recital and more. The RLC Music Ensemble is open to all students and community members. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment in the music industry to grow one percent over the next 20 years.
Theatre : The RLC Theatre Department has several classes in both acting and theatre. Each year, the program puts on two shows: a fall play and a spring children’s show. Auditions are open to students and community members who want to gain experience and training on the stage. RLC Thespians practice a form of acting called Comedy Improvisation, which is the same kind of quick-thinking acting exercises and hilarity seen on the television show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?†as well as the famous Second City improvisational enterprise in Chicago. This same sort of acting led to the popular “Saturday Night Live†series, which has been running since the 1970s. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has predicted a one percent growth in acting from 2019 to 2039.
