Computer and internet classes hitting RLC campus through November

INA, Ill. (Sept. 12, 2016) - Improve on your internet surfing and computer skills with five workshops at Rend Lake College. Learn tips and techniques for using your iPad or Linux computers, get the basics on the internet and email, or market your business online through crowdfunding and Facebook during these interactive classes.

Focus on your business with Facebook Marketing and Crowdfunding Your Business. Alongside Instructor Pamela Schallhorn of the University of Illinois Extension, utilize the two-hour Crowdfunding Your Business workshop to learn how to implement a successful crowdfunding campaign. The cost of the class is $10 and meets 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21 in the Academic Building, Room 206, on the Ina campus.

During Facebook Marketing, join Instructor Whitney Waldman to create and manage a Facebook page for your business using ads, promoted posts, and much more. This workshop costs $10 and meets 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 at the RLC MarketPlace, Room 338, in Mt. Vernon. Attendees must have a Facebook account prior to the start of the workshop.

Waldman is back to teach everything there is to know about tablets during iPad Basics. Setting up the tablet, downloading apps, customizing features and much more will be focused on. The class cost $10 and meets from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 at the RLC MarketPlace, Room 354B, in Mt. Vernon.

In October, Waldman will turn her focus on the Internet & Email Basics to give participants the inside view of different browsers, links, and web addresses to get started on the internet. During this workshop, attendees will also learn how to obtain an email account, check the account, attach photos to an email, and more. The class costs $10 and meets from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18 at the RLC MarketPlace, Room 338, in Mt. Vernon.

Finally, join Instructor James Featherstone to personalize your own operating system during the Linux for Home User workshop. This course will cover the basics of using Linux Mint, an easy-to-use operating system for personal use. The free system offers excellent security and provides all the basic programs needed to surf the web, send emails, create documents, produce presentations, and much more. Linux also offers countless applications free to download, giving participants limitless options for personalizing their own machine. Each student will get their own computer to customize, and Featherstone will be on hand to illustrate how to connect to the internet, help with downloading free applications, and answer any questions.

Thanks to local donations, all participants will be able to keep their customized computer, excluding the monitor. The class costs $50 and meets from 5 - 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 in the Advanced Technology Center, Room 175, on the Ina campus.
