Day Tours offer insight into St. Louis, Amish country

February 18, 2016

INA, Ill. (Feb. 18, 2016) - Spend a day in the big city or enjoying the countryside with one of three day tours offered through Rend Lake College. Two trips to St. Louis are scheduled for March and April, followed by a relaxing afternoon in Amish country in May.

The first day tour will be Re-Discover St. Louis on Thursday, March 24. Starting at the Gateway Arch, attendees will see first-hand the changes being made to the grounds before taking the tram ride to the top. For those who prefer, a showing of the movie “Monument to a Dream” will be showing instead of the tram ride.

Lunch will be at Kemoll’s, an Italian restaurant located at the top of the Metropolitan Square Building. Afterward, a driving tour of Washington Avenue and Citygarden will allow attendees to relax and enjoy the view. A visit to the Cathedral Basilica and a one-hour sightseeing cruise on the Mississippi River will close the trip.

Tour fees, lunch, gratuities, and bus transportation are included for the trip cost of $135. The bus will depart from the Historic Schoolhouse on the Ina campus at 7:30 a.m. and will return at 6:30 p.m. The same bus will also stop at the RLC MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon at 8 a.m. for pick-up and will return at 6 p.m. for drop off. Attendees interested in the trip must pre-register by Tuesday, March 1.

A second day tour in St. Louis focuses on the finer things. Tea Time at MaryAnn’s will start with a tour of the Magic Chef Mansion in St. Louis. The mansion, first constructed in 1908, is one of the city’s premiere old-world estates. Lunch will follow at MaryAnn’s Tea Room. The day will end with a tour of Bowood Garden and shopping at The Porch.

Tour fees, lunch, gratuities, and bus transportation are included for the trip cost of $109. The bus will depart from the Historic Schoolhouse on the Ina campus at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, and will return at 6:30 p.m. The same bus will also stop at the RLC MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon at 8 a.m. for pick-up and will return at 6 p.m.

If you’d rather spend the day out of the city lights, consider the Amish Country Tour. Attendees will arrive in downtown Arthur to do some sightseeing and shopping. A guided tour of the countryside to look at several Amish homes and businesses will follow. Enjoy a home-cooked lunch in an Amish home before taking a tour of the farm.

During the trip, attendees will also have the chance to stop at Beachy’s Bulk Foods, an Amish-owned and operated store. Tour fees, lunch, gratuities, and bus transportation are included for the trip cost of $89. The bus will depart from the Historic Schoolhouse on the Ina campus at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, and will return at 6 p.m. The same bus will also stop at the RLC MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon at 8 a.m. for pick-up and will return at 5:30 p.m. Attendees interested in the trip must pre-register by Tuesday, May 3.
