MT. VERNON, Ill. (Aug. 18, 2014) - The Rend Lake College MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon is growing into a one-stop shop for all-things education and personal enrichment. This fall, the MarketPlace is offering a number of general education courses, aerobics classes, computer workshops, and improvement programs in addition to the numerous retail and restaurants available to the public.
Most of the general education courses start this week and continue on into the first week of December. These courses include Calculus and Analytic Geometry I, Integrated Reading and Writing, Medical Terminology, EMT Basic, EMT Paramedic, Intro to Psychology, Intro to Phlebotomy, and Food Sanitation. Seven computer workshops will also be offered in the RLC MarketPlace, Room 338, starting this week. These workshops include Computer Basics, Beginning Microsoft Excel, Intermediate Microsoft Excel, Advanced Microsoft Excel, Beginning QuickBooks, Beginning Microsoft Word, and Beginning Microsoft Access. The MarketPlace Fitness Center will also offer two Spinning Aerobics courses and a Zumba Aerobics class this fall. The center costs $80 per semester to utilize a wide range of exercise equipment, such as treadmills, bikes, stair climbers, elliptical machines, and more. The aerobics classes cost an additional $5. The center is open from 6 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturdays; and 1 - 5 p.m. Sundays. To learn more about the Fitness Center, call 618-242-0027.
The RLC MarketPlace is also home to a number of other businesses and retail locations, including the college's Cosmetology program, Studio RLC; training centers for EMT-Paramedic, Certified Nurse Assistant, and the American Heart Association; Project CHILD, the Child Care Resource and Referral program; the Small Business Development Center; the college-owned RLC Golf Outlet; a coffee shop and Lone Star Steakhouse.
