INA, Ill. (September 20, 2022) — Rend Lake College Amateur Radio Club will host an "Earthquake: Did you Feel?" presentation. Dr. Thomas Beebe, Illinois State Section Manager, will host the informative event at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, October 4. The public is invited to meet at the RLC PDA room inside the student center on the Ina campus.
This event is planned in advance of the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill scheduled for October 20, where 30-60 million people across the globe practice their earthquake preparedness plans.
The presentation will discuss the impact on our local communities and the critical need for the United States Geological Society (USGS) to receive timely information from the epicenter. Dr. Beebe will provide details on how that process works and how radio clubs and community members can help.
"The more we understand about earthquakes, the better prepared we can be when, not if, the disaster happens," Beebe stated. "The Earthquake Did You Feel It program discusses citizen science to promote community resilience and the critical need for information from the epicenter, otherwise known as the "Donut Hole" of the quake."
