WHITTINGTON, Ill. (Sept. 9, 2014) - Both Rend Lake College golf teams are gearing up for their main fundraiser of the year, the 34th Annual RLC Foundation Golf Outing, set for Sept. 18 at the Rend Lake Golf Course in Whittington.
Every year, the men’s and women’s teams volunteer to help out during the tournament, which starts with lunch at 11 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at noon. Lady Warriors Head Coach Cindy Corn said the teams have helped with every aspect of the tournament in recent years.
“They do a variety of things during the day, including packing golf bags onto carts and giving out directions. They also go around and check on the teams during the day,†said Corn. “My players are also responsible for getting tee sponsors, so they have some of their family and friends play in it every year.â€
“Work or play, they make themselves available for whatever I need them to do,†added Warriors Head Coach Dave Smith.
For both teams, the Golf Outing is the biggest fundraiser for the year, helping to pay for uniforms, trips, or anything else that comes up during the season. Last year, the women’s team used some of the funds to attend the NJCAA Nationals in Daytona Beach, Fla. in May.
The entry fee for the outing is $125 per person, $50 of which is tax deductible. The entry fee covers green fees, riding carts, refreshments and snacks on the course, Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin contests for men and women, lunch, dinner, and prizes. The event will consist of 18 holes and spots will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, and golfers can register as an individual or as a part of a six-player team. The deadline to register is Sept. 15.
Individuals and businesses can also participate with a number of sponsorships, including a tee-sign on the course for $100 (black and white) or $150 (color with logo), lunch and dinner sponsors, and on a medium-sized sign at the entrance of the course for $250. All sponsors will be recognized at the dinner following the outing.
