RLC Graduate Kaitlin Henderson Begins Career as Radiologic Technologist

September 12, 2025

INA, Ill. (September 12, 2025) — Elkville native and Rend Lake College graduate Kaitlin Henderson has taken major steps in her career just months after graduating from the Radiologic Technology program in May.

Henderson began her career as a full-time, night shift Radiologic Technologist at Salem Hospital, where she is currently being cross-trained in Computed Tomography (CT). She credits the easy transition from school to work to the skills she developed in RLC’s radiology program.

“The program really prepared me for being able to assist with CTs,” said Henderson. “I’m also able to start IV’s, calculate contrast in patients on the monitor, and other necessary skills needed for my career.”

Looking back at her experience, Henderson says RLC faculty and staff played a big part in her success.

“I genuinely loved going to school at Rend Lake College,” said Henderson. “The faculty and staff at RLC are truly there to make sure each student succeeds. It’s not about enrollment numbers, it’s truly about each individual student’s success.”

One instructor in particular, Radiologic Technology Program Director Holly Heisner, left a lasting impact on Henderson.

“There was one point where I didn’t think I was going to pass a required physics class,” said Henderson. “She sat me down, and we went over my grades and drew up a game plan for each test and what I needed to score on it. She was really there for me during one of my worst moments academically. I will forever be grateful for her kind heart.”

“Kaitlin was an outstanding student who consistently demonstrated determination, professionalism, and a passion for patient care," said Heisner. "Her dedication and strong work ethic set her apart, and we are so proud to see her thriving as a Radiologic Technologist.”

To the current and future radiology students, Henderson encourages them to ask questions.

“There’s never a stupid question. Set yourself up for success by asking questions, studying with Quizlet and study guides, and taking practice tests.”
