More than 400 local high school students came out to Rend Lake College on Thursday and Friday for Kickstart Your Journey. The annual event, for area freshmen and sophomore students, teaches essential college basics. Students also have the opportunity to learn about different degrees and educational attainment, career options and financial aid options. Participants also had the chance to walk through the “Reality Store†where they are allotted a month’s salary to see if they will be able to afford all of life’s necessities with the career path they have chosen.
Visitors were able to spin the wheel for a chance card at Rend Lake College's Kickstart Your Journey. As part of the session, the students chose their desired career and, based on education level, participated in a Reality Store game similar to the Game of Life.
