Local Students Tour Purina Mill

March 20, 2023

Animal Science students from Rend Lake College were joined by local high school agriculture students for a recent tour of a feed mill. The tour was hosted by the Purina Animal Nutrition Plant in Evansville, Ind. Students got to see how minerals and feed were blended and learned about employment and internships within the company. The automation within the plant was eye opening. RLC Instructor Ed Billingsley said, "Students got to talk with plant managers and learned about employment opportunities and salaries for working in this field. Students know Agriculture is diverse and getting this opportunity is priceless.’’ RLC Board of Trustees Member and longtime Mt. Vernon Township High School ag instructor John Kabat said the  trip helped students understand the feed process and what is added to make it nutritional for animals. (Submitted Photos)
