Pytlinski takes student trustee seat, Liske honored
Claire Pytlinski of Waltonville was seated as the student member of the RLC Board of Trustees for the 2015-2016 academic year. Pytlinski is a double major at RLC in Agricultural Production and Management, and Business. The freshman is an active member in the Collegiate FFA as well as the Phi Theta Kappa and Sigma Phi honor societies. Her future plans include transferring to a four-year university to get a degree in Ag Communications or Marketing.
Pytlinksi replaces outgoing student trustee Elijah Liske (Sesser), who was recognized with a plaque for his year of service. Liske, an agriculture student as well, expressed his appreciation to the board for his experience over the past year as well as his respect for Rend Lake College. "As of right now, I still plan on becoming a high school ag teacher, and I will definitely push my students to attend the best community college in Southern Illinois," Liske said.

Design students conceptualize renovation project
The board saw a presentation from students in the Graphic Design program, led by Professor Jennifer Tarantino Linsin, regarding ways to upgrade the Vocational Building, which currently houses the program. They suggested options including demolition of walls to free up space, creation of an area for collaboration and relaxation, implementation of a showcase area, and more.
Student Chris Parsons said the group embraced the HIVE (Helping Imagination Visually Expand) concept, based on a hexagonal design. Student Mike Dees said producing new ideas is a process, and creative minds need time to recharge. The renovation scheme proposed would assist with this, he said.
RLC President Terry Wilkerson said he appreciated the group's efforts and that administrators will be considering their ideas.

Records Specialist position to be filled
Granted permission to advertise for a Records Specialist in the Student Records Department. Student Records will assume the responsibility of verifying and maintaining student identification and residency requirements information. This full-time position will be the result of combining the current part-time and student worker positions.

Chapter 30 Montgomery G.I. Bill veterans to be considered in-district
Approved a measure granting in-district resident status for tuition purposes to those students using federal Chapter 30 Montgomery G.I. Bill effective July 1. In August 2013, a law was passed deeming people using federal Post-9/11 Veterans Education Assistance to be in-district residents for tuition purposes regardless of their physical residency. Per additions to the Choice Act and Public Act 98-0306, students using Chapter 30 Montgomery G.I. Bill will be added to that group.
