State Electric to supply LED lighting fixtures
The board accepted the low bid of $37,491 from State Electric Supply of Marion to purchase LED lighting fixtures and arms for campus parking lots. The purchase will be made with Protection, Health and Safety funds.

Halsey to coordinate First-Year Experience program
Appointed Hillary Halsey as First-Year Experience Coordinator effective July 16. She has been the Testing and Placement Specialist for Rend Lake College's Student Services Department since June 2012, and prior to that was a Financial Aid Outreach Advisor for the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from Eastern Illinois University.

Wingo joins Mining Tech faculty
Ratified the appointment of Charles Wingo as Mining Technology Instructor effective pending United Mine Workers of America Health Insurance acceptance. Wingo holds an Associate in Science Degree in Industrial Technology from Rend Lake College. He worked for Old Ben Coal Co. from 1973-1996, and currently works as the ECALL Maintenance Coordinating Manager at Continental Tire.

In other business, the board ...

  • Approved revisions to board policy regarding inventory (second reading) and computation of hourly pay rate for part-time employees (second reading).
  • Learned that the annual obsolete equipment auction held June 20 generated $9,733.50 in proceeds, less auctioneering costs of $2,433.
  • Approved the 2013-2014 Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.
  • Approved interdistrict cooperative agreements for educational cooperation with Southeastern Illinois College, Illinois Eastern Community Colleges, John A. Logan College and Shawnee Community College. These agreements allow students to take programs at another college if their sending college does not have that program. They do not have to pay charge back and the sending college is able to receive state equalization.
  • Approved salaries for administrative, administrative support, academic support and office support personnel effective July 1.
  • Approved a revision to the amount of coverage needed and the principal party insured under a surety bond for Rend Lake College as required by the state for Fiscal Year 2014. State statutes require the college executes and obtains a surety bond from a recognized agent for the treasurer of the district. The amount required must be for an amount no less than 25 percent of the total of all bonds, notes, mortgages, moneys and effects of which the treasurer is to have custody. After review, it was determined that RLC needs a surety bond in an amount no less than $21,018,700 to meet the legal requirement for the protection of the district's counties and the state.
